The Halandri Parents Social Cooperative Enterprise at the Puppet Festival!
The World Puppetry Day is celebrated on 21 March every year by the puppetry and shadow theatre world, highlighting an art form that has been around since ancient times.
The Union Internationale de la Marionnette Greece (UNIMA Greece) decided for this year's celebrations to focus on cooperative productions/actions, urging puppeteers to socialise with each other as well as people or groups from other fields (artistic or not). As it notes on its website (http://www.unimahellas.org), "Our aim is not to just stage yet another festival with off-the-shelf performances, but to foster cooperation among puppeteers and other individuals through lasting collective actions (whether these may culminate into some form of activity, game, session or anything else that may arise). It will be a celebration whereby our actions/relationship will be communicated in a more practical and tangible manner."
The Halandri Parents Social Cooperative Enterprise participated in the celebrations with a 10-minute street theatre performance, inspired by the doll making and animation seminars organised in January and February, and taught by puppeteers Giannis Tsioutas and Nikos Michopoulos.
